In a strategic move to modernize Nigeria’s road transport sector, Chisco Transport Limited has commenced the local assembly of Yutong luxury buses and Sinotruk trucks at its newly operational facility in Iponri, Surulere, Lagos. The initiative marks a significant step in the company’s fleet renewal and expansion strategy, anchored by the launch of its new Drive-To-Own franchise program.
The assembly plant, which also handles other Chinese commercial vehicle brands, has already produced an initial batch of 80 luxury buses and 40 trucks. These vehicles are set to serve key interregional routes—particularly connecting Southeastern and Northern states, and will also operate premium services along the Lagos–Accra corridor.
Group Chairman Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu emphasized that the investment was driven by a longstanding commitment to job creation and economic stimulation, rather than profit alone. “When I entered the transport business in 1981, I saw it primarily as a means to employ people,” he recalled. “This new assembly project and the Drive-To-Own scheme extend that vision; empowering operators, improving logistics, and upgrading passenger experience.”
The Drive-To-Own program is designed to broaden access to modern transport assets, covering passenger services, cargo, and parcel delivery. According to Managing Director Obinna Anyaegbu, the initiative will help meet growing demands for reliable road transport and logistics, including the movement of essential goods such as medical supplies.
The newly assembled Yutong buses come equipped with air conditioning, cushioned seats, USB ports, and entertainment systems, while the Sinotruk trucks include modern sleeper cabins. Vehicles produced at the plant will also be available for purchase by other transport operators.
Yutong’s technical lead, Mr. Damian Lee, assured ongoing after-sales support, including 24-hour technical assistance, faster spare parts supply, and maintenance training for local technicians.
Interested participants in the franchise scheme are directed to apply via the company’s official recruitment email channel. Beneficiaries of the program have already undergone operational training, with a focus on safety, customer service, and vehicle maintenance.
The development is expected to enhance fleet sustainability, create employment opportunities, and elevate the standard of road transport services across Nigeria and West Africa.
