The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) has reiterated its dedication to pioneering sustainable and innovative transport solutions across Nigeria and the African continent.
The commitment was delivered on behalf of the Institute’s President, Prince (Dr.) Segun Obayendo, FInstTA, by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. (Mrs.) Chizoba Anyika, during the 2025 International Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility (SUMConference25). The event, hosted by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), is centered on the theme “Harnessing Clean Urban Transport Innovation and Investment in Africa.”
Prince Obayendo praised the conference as a “visionary platform” uniting leaders and innovators to develop strategies for cleaner, safer, and more inclusive mobility in African urban centers. He emphasized the growing urgency for clean transport technologies, innovative financing, and robust policy frameworks as the continent’s cities experience rapid expansion.
“CIOTA stands as a bridge between policy and practice,” the President stated. He confirmed that the Institute’s core mission of professional training, certification, and policy advocacy is fundamental to achieving these sustainable transport goals.
The CIOTA President further noted that the conference theme directly aligns with the Institute’s mandate to drive professionalism and innovation in transport administration. He called for enhanced collaboration between government, private investors, and academia to fast-track Africa’s shift toward clean mobility, urging a transition “from conversations to action” by strengthening local ecosystems and investing in sustainable transport infrastructure.
