The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has expressed strong opposition to the Nigerian Ports Authority’s (NPA) new call-up system at the Onne Port, describing it as an unnecessary cost burden on port users.

In a statement, APFFLON called for the immediate suspension of the system, which it said has increased the cost of doing business at the port despite existing traffic management facilities already in place by the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT).

The association noted that the policy contradicts the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to lower operational costs, promote export activities, and position Nigeria as a competitive maritime hub. It also lamented that the system introduces additional bureaucratic layers and charges that could further frustrate exporters and logistics operators.

APFFLON urged the NPA to engage stakeholders in meaningful consultations and conduct a comprehensive cost–benefit analysis before implementing such initiatives. It emphasized the need for uniform policies across terminals to prevent confusion and ensure fairness in port operations.

The group warned that without proper stakeholder engagement, the new call-up system could undermine the competitiveness of Onne Port and hamper Nigeria’s export drive.
