The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two technology firms, Automata and i-Cell, to modernize parking management across the state and ease persistent traffic congestion.
The agreement, formalised by the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), is designed to introduce advanced technology solutions for monitoring, booking, and enforcing parking, thereby reducing indiscriminate parking that contributes to gridlock in the city.
Speaking at the signing, LASPA General Manager, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, said the partnership will enable motorists to locate available parking spaces, book slots ahead of time, and reduce harassment from touts and illegal operators.
She explained that the project represents a major shift from manual to technology-driven parking control and will play a crucial role in ensuring smoother traffic flow across Lagos.
Representatives of the partner firms, Mr. Pereira Seun of Automata and Mr. Hassan Fayad alongside Mr. Fayad Fayd of i-Cell, described the initiative as a game-changer for urban mobility in Africa’s largest city.
Adelabu urged residents to comply with state parking laws and embrace the new system, noting that the success of the initiative depends on public cooperation.
