The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has explained the delay in deploying a mobile control tower at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, saying the move is necessary to comply with strict safety and engineering standards required in global aviation operations.
The agency stated that the temporary tower cannot be installed immediately because the designated location must first undergo proper ground preparation and structural assessment to guarantee stability and operational safety.
According to NAMA, aviation experts advised that civil engineering work must be completed at the installation site before the mobile control tower can be mounted and put into operation.
Despite the delay, the agency assured airlines and passengers that air traffic control services at the airport have continued without disruption through alternative operational arrangements, even after the earlier fire incident that affected parts of the control infrastructure.
