The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has called an emergency meeting with 13 domestic airlines in response to increasing reports of flight disruptions and inadequate passenger care.

Scheduled for Wednesday in Abuja, the meeting will address ongoing issues including frequent delays and cancellations, poor passenger handling, unresolved refund claims, and compliance with safety protocols. Michael Achimugu, NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed the summons in a statement on Tuesday.

Achimugu emphasized that airlines must improve adherence to regulations, particularly those mandating care for stranded passengers, such as providing accommodation for cancellations between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. He also warned that carriers failing to meet these standards face public naming and significant sanctions.

The meeting follows a recent NCAA advisory reinforcing airline obligations under Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations and aims to strengthen consumer protection and service quality within the domestic aviation sector.
