The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Army have agreed to strengthen security operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following a courtesy visit by officers of the 176 Presidential Guards Battalion to the aviation regulatory body.
The delegation, led by Commanding Officer Lt. Colonel Oladimeji Ajongbo, met with NCAA officials to reaffirm both institutions’ commitment to collaborative security efforts at the nation’s premier airport.
Receiving the team, Director General of NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, described the visit as timely and underscored the Authority’s uncompromising stance on aviation security. He noted that safeguarding the airport requires shared responsibility and seamless inter-agency cooperation.
“Aviation security is a collective responsibility,” Najomo said. “We welcome this renewed synergy with the Nigerian Army, whose professionalism and dedication to national security are well recognized.”
He emphasized that the NCAA plays a central role in coordinating aviation security through the National Civil Aviation Security Committee and pledged continued regulatory oversight to ensure all security measures meet international standards.
In his remarks, Lt. Col. Ajongbo reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to securing the airport through enhanced patrols, intelligence gathering, and joint operations. He expressed appreciation for the NCAA’s regulatory guidance and noted that sustained collaboration would further strengthen the security architecture around the airport.
Also speaking, the Director of Aviation Security Regulation (DAVSEC), Dr. Bernard Omogo, reiterated the Authority’s readiness to provide regulatory support and ensure smooth coordination with the military and other security partners.
The renewed partnership comes amid ongoing efforts to bolster security at critical national infrastructure, with both agencies pledging to maintain close coordination to safeguard passengers, personnel, and airport facilities.
