The newly established Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM) has been described as a timely response to the shortage of skilled professionals in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Founder and Chancellor, Mr. Isaac Balami, said the university was created to train engineers, pilots, air traffic controllers, and managers to meet industry demands.
He explained that the institution would offer a blend of technical and managerial education, including aircraft maintenance, avionics, and leadership training.
Balami said students would graduate with both a private pilot licensed and international aircraft maintenance certification accredited by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
He projected that Africa would need over 65,000 aviation professionals in the next decade and stressed that Nigeria must build local capacity to remain competitive.
Balami added that the management was partnering with stakeholders to make training affordable through sponsorships and scholarships.
He expressed optimism that the university, the first of its kind in Africa, would help Nigeria achieve self-sufficiency in aviation manpower development.
