Nigeria and Denmark have agreed to strengthen collaboration in maritime security and seafarers’ training as part of ongoing efforts to boost safety and capacity in the nation’s maritime industry.

The agreement was reached during a courtesy visit by the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Jens Ole Bach Jansen, to the headquarters of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in Lagos.

Ambassador Jansen commended NIMASA for its strides in maritime safety and security, noting that Denmark was ready to share its expertise in maritime governance, technology, and human capacity development. He said the collaboration would focus on training Nigerian seafarers to meet international standards while enhancing the fight against piracy and other maritime crimes in the Gulf of Guinea.

In his remarks, NIMASA Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, expressed appreciation for Denmark’s consistent partnership and support, noting that Nigeria values the European nation’s role in improving maritime operations and security in West Africa.

Mobereola said the partnership would focus on knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and improving the welfare and global competitiveness of Nigerian seafarers. He added that such cooperation aligns with Nigeria’s vision to build a sustainable blue economy.
