Nigeria’s aviation industry has recorded a major milestone as Onedot Aviation successfully completed its first full C-check maintenance on a Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft operated by XeJet.
The rigorous base maintenance, which involved detailed inspections of the aircraft’s structure, systems, and cabin, was carried out at Onedot’s Lagos hangar. Following completion, the aircraft undertook a successful test flight on August 21 and was issued its Certificate of Release to Service (CRS).
This achievement is the first of its kind in Nigeria and highlights the country’s growing Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) capability. Until now, such complex checks were typically performed abroad, leading to capital flight and longer downtime for Nigerian operators.
Onedot Aviation’s breakthrough follows the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) approval in February 2025, which expanded the company’s scope of certification to include full base maintenance for Bombardier Challenger and CRJ series aircraft. Previously, its operations were restricted to tasks such as wheels and brakes servicing, non-destructive testing (NDT), and battery maintenance.
Speaking on the development, Captain Dotun Henry Ogunyemi, Chief Executive Officer of Onedot Aviation, described the successful C-check as a demonstration of Nigeria’s readiness to compete in the global aviation maintenance market.
“Completing this check in record time, while maintaining international quality standards, proves that Nigeria can now retain high-value aviation work at home. This is not just about Onedot—it’s about building confidence in our local aviation ecosystem,” Ogunyemi said.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the milestone, noting that it will lower operational costs for airlines, reduce reliance on foreign facilities, and pave the way for Nigeria to position itself as a regional MRO hub.
The CRJ-200 C-check for XeJet is now being hailed as a turning point for the sector, boosting investor confidence and strengthening Nigeria’s place in the fast-growing African aviation market.
