The Federal Government has earmarked N33,906,953,400 (about N33.9 billion) in the 2026 Appropriation Bill specifically for the rehabilitation and upgrade of airports across Nigeria, signalling renewed focus on aviation infrastructure improvements.
According to the budget details, the funding will be deployed for repairing runways, expanding aprons, upgrading terminal facilities, enhancing safety-critical systems and strengthening perimeter fencing at selected domestic and international airports.
A significant portion of the allocation will be used to address cracked runways, aprons and taxiways at major hubs such as Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt, while another portion is earmarked for the procurement and installation of modern airfield lighting systems at Ilorin Airport and similar facilities.
The airport upgrade budget complements broader aviation infrastructure plans under the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, reflecting ongoing efforts to boost safety, improve passenger experience and support economic growth through improved air connectivity nationwide.
