FRSC Secures Two-Month Jail Term for One-Way Driver on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured a two-month prison sentence with no option of fine for a motorist apprehended for driving against traffic along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The offender, Koko Moses, was driving a Volkswagen bus with registration number MUS 89 YG when he was intercepted during a special joint enforcement patrol along the Kara–Opic corridor. Further checks revealed he was also operating without a valid driver’s licence.

In a statement issued by Corps Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed confirmed that Moses was arraigned before the Ojodu-Abiodun Magisterial District Court and convicted accordingly.

The special patrol, a collaboration between the FRSC Lagos and Ogun Sector Commands, the Nigeria Police, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, and the Nigerian Army; was launched in response to rising cases of reckless one-way driving. The practice, authorities noted, had been exacerbated by ongoing bridge construction works along the expressway.

Lagos Sector Commander Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat led the intervention, with CSP Ayegbede John of the Warewa Police Station prosecuting the case.

The FRSC described the conviction as a strong deterrent, signalling that dangerous driving and impunity on Nigerian highways would no longer be tolerated. Authorities also reported an immediate decline in one-way violations along the corridor following the sustained enforcement operation.
