The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the commencement of expansion joint replacement works on the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, warning motorists to expect traffic disruptions during the two-week rehabilitation exercise.
The advisory issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, through a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs of the Ministry of Transportation, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola. They disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Works will commence the repair works on today, July 28, as part of efforts to improve the structural integrity and safety of the bridge.
According to the ministry, the existing four-lane carriageway will be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch to create a safe working environment for construction personnel while maintaining traffic flow. Osiyemi advised motorists to anticipate delays around the Kara axis, particularly near the Fatgbems Turn, and urged them to cooperate with traffic management officials, obey road signs, and consider alternative routes where necessary.
The commissioner explained that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to ensure the successful completion of the maintenance work, which is aimed at enhancing the durability of the bridge and ensuring safer travel for all road users.
