The Lagos State Government has advised motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to plan their journeys ahead of the commencement of rehabilitation works on the damaged expansion joints at Kara Bridge.

The repair works are scheduled to begin on Today, September 8, 2026, following an intervention by the Federal Ministry of Works. The rehabilitation is expected to last two weeks and is aimed at restoring the deteriorating expansion joints on the busy corridor.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement, urging motorists to anticipate possible delays and make appropriate travel arrangements before using the route. According to Osiyemi, one half of the affected section will be closed at a time during the rehabilitation, while motorists will use the remaining open half interchangeably. The arrangement is intended to minimise the impact of the repairs on traffic movement along the corridor.

The project was initially scheduled to commence earlier but was postponed following concerns over traffic management and the need for better arrangements to reduce disruption to commuters. The latest rehabilitation, directed by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, is expected to run until September 22. The Lagos State Government appealed to motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed to the area throughout the rehabilitation period.
