The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary suspension of its Kajola-Apapa (BAT) train service for a period of three weeks, effective July 6, to facilitate scheduled maintenance of locomotives and coaches. The last passenger train service prior to the maintenance break will depart on July 3, the corporation confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the NRC, freight operations to and from the Apapa Port Complex, as well as other train terminals along both narrow and standard gauge corridors, will remain operational without interruption throughout the maintenance period. To mitigate the impact on commuters, the corporation has advised passengers to utilise its Lagos Mass Transit Train (LMTT) services, which operate every weekday from Monday to Friday.

Under the LMTT schedule, morning services depart Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. for Iddo. Evening return services leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola. The NRC encouraged passengers to take advantage of these alternative services during the three-week suspension.

In explaining the rationale for the suspension, NRC Managing Director, Dr Kayode Opeifa, stated that the maintenance exercise is essential to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of train operations. He expressed appreciation to passengers for their patience, understanding, and continued patronage, while reaffirming the corporation’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient rail transportation across the country.
