African airlines recorded the strongest performance globally in air cargo demand for February, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The report shows that African carriers outpaced other regions in year-on-year cargo growth, continuing a strong momentum seen at the start of 2026. Industry data indicates that the continent has consistently led global rankings in recent months, driven by rising trade activity and improving market demand.

Globally, air cargo demand has remained resilient, supported by steady growth in international trade and easing fuel cost pressures. However, performance across regions has been uneven, with Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia-Pacific recording stronger growth compared to the Americas.

Despite the positive outlook, IATA cautioned that global uncertainties including geopolitical tensions and shifting trade policies could impact cargo demand in the coming months.
The development highlights Africa’s rising importance in global air cargo logistics, even as the industry continues to navigate economic and operational challenges.
