Customs Launches Life-Saving First Aid Training for Officers

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Apapa Area Command has begun a comprehensive first aid training programme for its officers, as part of efforts to strengthen workplace safety and operational readiness.

During the opening session, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, emphasised the importance of first aid skills in the field, particularly because customs officers often work in environments where medical help may not be immediately available.

Comptroller A.S. Aku, Zonal Medical Officer (Zone B), led the training and noted the grim reality: more than 60 officers have died in 2025 so far a situation the Health Corps attributes partially to a lack of life-saving skills.

Training modules include CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), bleeding control, managing burns and bone injuries, and handling choking victims.

Oshoba encouraged all participants to engage fully during both theory sessions and hands-on drills, saying that every officer should be ready to act as a first responder in emergency situations.
