Dangote Petroleum Refinery has implemented a reduction in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from ₦850 to ₦820 per litre. Effective Tuesday, August 12, 2025, this price cut is anticipated to provide some relief to consumers facing high fuel costs.
Anthony Chiejina, the Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, stated the adjustment aligns with Dangote’s commitment to national development and ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products. This reduction occurs amidst rising pump prices from other marketers, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently adjusting its rates to approximately ₦900 per litre in Abuja and ₦875 in Lagos. Some independent stations are already selling petrol near ₦1,000 per litre.
Concurrently, Dangote announced the deployment of 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks for nationwide fuel distribution, commencing August 15, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency while reducing the environmental footprint of its logistics operations.
This latest price reduction has the potential to positively influence national pump prices, easing the burden on motorists and transport operators. It also signals Dangote’s strategy of combining product affordability with innovative, sustainable energy logistics solutions.
