Driving Nigeria’s Future: Experts Call for Holistic Transport Policy at 11th Nigeria Transport Lecture

As Nigeria navigates the complexities of its evolving transport landscape, the 11th Nigeria Transport Lecture, held  in Lagos, placed sustainable transportation at the forefront of national discourse. The annual event, organized by Transport Day Media, once again proved to be a crucial platform for charting the way forward.

At the 11th Nigeria Transport Lecture in Lagos, stakeholders called for a comprehensive national transport policy and a strategic rail master plan to drive Nigeria’s transportation future. Speakers emphasised aligning Nigeria’s transport systems with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure accessibility, affordability, and environmental responsibility.

President Tinubu’s rail sector reforms were applauded as transformative steps toward modernising Nigeria’s transport infrastructure. The lecture, themed “Sustainable Transportation in Nigeria: Prospects & Challenges”, gathered key agencies such as the FRSC, NRC, NADDC, and the academia.

Discussions focused on advancing clean, efficient transport solutions across all modes—road, rail, air, and maritime. Transport Day Media’s Editor, Frank Kintum, stressed that Nigeria must embrace sustainability to remain competitive globally. He noted that sustainable transport boosts cost efficiency, productivity, and overall quality of life. The annual event has historically featured influential speakers and remains a critical space for transport policy dialogue.

Participants underscored that sustained conversations and actionable strategies are essential to drive long-term change. The conference concluded with a renewed commitment to collaborative action for a safer, greener, and more efficient transport system in Nigeria.
