In a major infrastructure development, the recently approved Kajola (Itori) and Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Ports, along with the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, are to be integrated into the national rail network. This strategic move is designed to significantly enhance Nigeria’s trade efficiency and economic growth.

Analysts project that the project will decongest the Lagos port system, increase national GDP, and fortify Ogun State’s industrial hub initiative. The integrated network will establish the state as a premier cargo consolidation and distribution center for the South-West region, improving competitiveness and facilitating trade.

The Ijebu-Ode Dry Port, situated within the state’s Economic Development Cluster, is expected to provide an effective logistics and transportation network. This will lower production costs and make the location more attractive for industrial investment.

Commenting on the approval, Governor Dapo Abiodun stated: “The Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port and the Gateway International Airport are critical enablers of industrialization and regional competitiveness. Together, they will transform Ogun State into a logistics and economic powerhouse, creating prosperity for our people and opportunities for Nigeria at large.”

This development ensures a balanced industrial strategy across Ogun State. With the Kajola Dry Port serving the Central Senatorial District and the Ijebu-Ode port bolstering the Eastern corridor, growth is being strategically distributed for equitable and sustainable development.

The project follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval in January for the establishment of Inland Dry Ports in Ijebu-Ode and Oyo State’s Moniya, as part of a federal initiative to alleviate congestion at Lagos seaports, eliminate chronic delays, and stimulate the national economy.
