FG Engages Concessionaires to Automate Airport Access Gate Payments

The Federal Government has begun engaging concessionaires to introduce a fully automated payment system at airport access gates nationwide as part of efforts to improve efficiency and eliminate cash transactions.

The decision was announced by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, following a review of operational challenges encountered during the earlier rollout of a cashless access gate payment system.

According to the ministry, the engagement of concessionaires is aimed at deploying modern electronic infrastructure that will automate toll collection at airport entry points and ensure seamless payment processing. The move is also expected to enhance transparency in revenue generation and align Nigeria’s aviation sector with global best practices.

The development comes after the Federal Government suspended the initial full cashless payment system due to severe traffic congestion experienced at airport gates, particularly during its early implementation.
