Minister of Marine and Blue Economy
The Federal Government has announced a partnership with Nigerian shipowners to relaunch the Nigeria Maritime Exhibition and Conference (NIMAREX) and strengthen support for indigenous shipping operators.
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, disclosed this in Abuja during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA) and other maritime stakeholders.
Oyetola said the move is part of the government’s broader effort to reposition Nigeria’s maritime sector for global competitiveness while promoting local participation and investment in shipping.
He described the revival of NIMAREX as a strategic step toward creating a platform for collaboration between government agencies, shipowners, and investors, noting that the exhibition would help showcase Nigeria’s potential in the blue economy.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting indigenous shipowners through improved policies, infrastructure development, and funding mechanisms. He said the objective is to strengthen local capacity, reduce dependence on foreign vessels, and ensure Nigerian operators play a leading role in coastal and international trade.
