The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expanded its Ember-Months safety campaign by taking targeted road-safety advocacy directly into motor parks across Nigeria, aiming to influence driver behaviour and reduce the high incidence of traffic crashes during the peak travel season.

Under the theme “Take Responsibility for Your Driving: Stop Distracted Driving,” FRSC officials, in collaboration with transport unions and local stakeholders, visited major parks to engage drivers, passengers, park officials and transport unions on key safety issues. They emphasised the dangers of distracted driving, overspeeding, reckless overtaking and poor vehicle maintenance known contributors to road traffic crashes.
The Corps’ team handed out safety materials, conducted briefings and encouraged commuters to insist on safe driving practices, such as the use of seatbelts, avoidance of mobile phone use while driving, and adherence to road rules. FRSC personnel also held one-on-one interactions with commercial drivers, urging them to prioritise life over speed and convenience.

The initiative reflects a broader multipronged approach by the FRSC during the Ember-Months period, traditionally associated with increased travel and higher crash rates due to festive movements. By meeting motorists where they operate especially in high-traffic hubs like motor parks the Corps hopes to instil a culture of personal accountability and responsibility that can translate into safer roads during the yuletide period and beyond.
