Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 50% discount on fares for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, effective Thursday, September 4, 2025, to commemorate the system’s second anniversary.
In a statement released on his official X account on Wednesday, the governor highlighted the significant achievements of the Blue Line since its inauguration two years ago. He revealed that the rail system has safely transported over five million passengers without a single recorded accident.
“Two years ago, we embarked on a transformative journey with the launch of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line. Today, I am filled with pride and gratitude as we reflect on our progress,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
He further noted that trains currently operate at ten-minute intervals, completing more than 90 trips daily. This has substantially reduced travel time for thousands of commuters, making transit across the city faster and more efficient.
The governor emphasized that this milestone underscores the state’s ongoing commitment to developing transport infrastructure that offers tangible benefits to residents. The success of the Blue Line, according to Sanwo-Olu, not only addresses commuting challenges but also reflects the power of collective effort and sustained dedication.
“These accomplishments demonstrate that with focused determination, we can create systems that genuinely serve the people,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to Lagosians for their continued support, referring to the Blue Line as “a collective achievement for all residents.” The anniversary discount aims to encourage more people to experience the modern rail service firsthand.
“To celebrate this two-year milestone, I am pleased to introduce a 50% fare reduction on the Blue Line for tomorrow, September 4. If you haven’t yet experienced the Blue Line, I invite you to take a ride and see what we’ve accomplished together,” the governor announced.
Looking forward, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing urban mobility through safer, faster, and more efficient transportation solutions.
“Our work is not done. We are steadily building the Lagos we all aspire to have; a city where mobility is seamless, safe, and efficient. Together, we are shaping the future of Lagos,” he said.
Launched in September 2023, the Blue Line is the first of several rail projects under the state’s integrated mass transit strategy. It aims to alleviate congestion, improve transport efficiency, and boost productivity in Africa’s most populous city.
