Lagos Commissioner for Transportation
The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions on key routes within Victoria Island ahead of the E1 Lagos GP, Africa’s first electric powerboat racing championship, scheduled to hold from October 3 to 5, 2025.
In a statement on Monday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the measure was necessary to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety throughout the three-day international sporting event.
According to the advisory, First Lekki Junction inward Ozumba Mbadiwe Street will be closed to traffic during the race days. Motorists from Ajah heading to Lekki are advised to divert at the first Lekki Junction and use Yesufu Abiodun Road, Maroko Police Station, City of David, Ligali Ayorinde, Ajose Adeogun, Eko Hotel Roundabout, and then link Ahmadu Bello Way toward Independence Bridge.
The statement further outlined alternative routes for vehicles going to CMS, Ikoyi, and other parts of Lagos Mainland, while assuring that the coastal road will remain open for use.
Designated parking areas will be provided at Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, and the Nigerian Law School premises on Victoria Island. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will also deploy personnel to enforce compliance and assist motorists.
Osiyemi appealed to residents and commuters to exercise patience, stressing that the diversions are temporary and aimed at minimizing disruption while positioning Lagos as a hub for global sporting activities.
