The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a strong rebuttal against a widely circulated video on social media accusing the agency of misleading motorists regarding the use of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor along Ikorodu Road.

The video, shared by “Lagos Reporters” on Facebook, falsely claimed that motorists were permitted to use the BRT lane from Ojota inward. It also criticized LASTMA officials for apprehending violators at Idi-Iroko, inward Anthony.

In an official statement released on Monday, LASTMA firmly denied the allegations, describing them as entirely false and misleading. The agency clarified that the Lagos State Government has only granted temporary and limited access to the BRT corridor at two specific locations: Odo-Iya Alaro and Eko Bridge. This measure is a temporary traffic intervention to ease congestion caused by the ongoing rehabilitation of the expansion joint at Ifako-Ogudu Bridge.

The authority emphasized that no permission has been given for motorists to drive on the BRT corridor at Idi-Iroko or any other section of Ikorodu Road outside the officially approved areas.

LASTMA confirmed that an internal investigation found no evidence to support the claim that any of its officers authorized the use of the BRT lane from Ojota to Idi-Iroko. Video footage from the same location and time showed that the main carriageway was free-flowing, further discrediting the viral post.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing traffic laws and maintaining order on Lagos roads, particularly by protecting dedicated mass transit corridors such as the BRT lanes. Motorists are urged to comply with all traffic regulations and avoid spreading unverified information.

Violators caught using the BRT corridor illegally will face strict penalties in accordance with the law.

The Lagos State Government also assured the public that rehabilitation work on the Ifako-Ogudu Bridge is being accelerated. All temporary traffic concessions will be lifted immediately upon completion of the project.

Members of the public are advised to seek accurate information through official channels, including the LASTMA toll-free hotline: 080000527862.
