NADDC Unveils Digital Portal to Transform Nigeria’s Automotive Industry

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has unveiled the National Automotive Repository Portal (NARP), a digital platform designed to transform the regulation, monitoring, and development of Nigeria’s automotive industry through real-time data management and automated compliance processes.

The portal was unveiled in Lagos by the Director-General of NADDC, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, who was represented by the Director and Head of Policy, Planning and Statistics, Nuru Sidi Umar. Osanipin described NARP as the “digital backbone” of Nigeria’s automotive ecosystem and a major milestone in implementing the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) 2023–2033.

According to Osanipin, the platform will digitalise the licensing process for vehicle assemblers, eliminate manual procedures, provide real-time industry data, and strengthen regulatory oversight. He added that the initiative would support evidence-based policymaking, attract investment, and improve the ease of doing business in the automotive sector.

In his welcome address, Nuru Sidi Umar said the repository was developed to address longstanding challenges associated with fragmented data collection, manual compliance validation, and operational bottlenecks affecting local vehicle assembly operations. He explained that the portal will automate factory inspections, track technical evaluations in real time, and create a digital footprint for every registered vehicle through its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
