The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to adopting modern technology and continuous staff development to strengthen air-traffic navigation and safety, agency officials said at the weekend.
At the Annual General Meeting of the National Association of Air Traffic Engineers (NAEE) in Lagos, NAMA Managing Director Farouk Umar Ahmed said the agency will continue prioritising the training of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) to ensure Nigeria’s airspace systems meet global standards.
He highlighted that this year’s AGM theme, “Safety, Efficiency and Innovation: The Triple Mandate of Air Traffic Engineers,” reflects ongoing transformation in global airspace management, where modern Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) infrastructure and digital systems have become essential.
Under the modernization drive, NAMA has extended its advanced satellite-based communication network the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunications Network (AFTN) to 26 airports nationwide, bolstering aeronautical message handling and ensuring more reliable, resilient communication across Nigeria’s airports.
The agency emphasized that every radar sweep, communication channel, and navigational aid will depend on the vigilance and technical expertise of trained engineers making human capacity alongside technology central to ensuring safe and efficient air traffic management.
