The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a stern warning that unruly air travellers will face denied boarding, arrest, and prosecution for misconduct at the nation’s airports or onboard aircraft.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, emphasised that the authority will adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward disruptive behaviour. He clarified that passengers have no right to act rudely, issue threats, or make physical contact with cabin crew members.

Achimugu stated that increased enforcement will lead to more denied boardings, arrests, prosecutions, and financial penalties for non-compliant passengers. He stressed that while cabin crew are trained to be courteous and efficient, they are also empowered to enforce regulations firmly.

The director expressed concern over a perceived sense of entitlement among some passengers, noting that many comply with aviation rules abroad but fail to do so within Nigeria. He emphasised that passenger rights come with responsibilities, and compliance with crew instructions is mandatory.

Achimugu advised passengers who believe their rights have been violated to report the incident to the NCAA rather than take matters into their own hands. He also revealed that he is advocating for a review of existing regulations to align with international standards, citing countries like Turkey where non-compliance results in severe penalties.

The NCAA urges all travellers to adhere to safety protocols, cooperate with crew members, and maintain order throughout their journey.
