Shippers’ Council Writes MSC, Insists on Suspension of Tariff Hike

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has formally written to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), reiterating its directive for the immediate suspension of the recently introduced shipping tariff increase.

In a letter , the Council instructed MSC to maintain the existing tariff structure pending further consultations with industry stakeholders. The directive forms part of efforts to address growing concerns over the impact of the tariff hike on port users and the broader logistics sector.

The Council emphasized that the suspension remains in force until a stakeholders’ meeting is convened to deliberate on the proposed charges and their implications. It warned that any failure to comply with the directive would constitute a breach of regulatory guidelines.

The development follows protests by freight forwarders and clearing agents, who had earlier rejected the increase and threatened to disrupt port operations if the charges were not reversed.
