The Lagos-based clean-mobility company Spiro has expanded its locally manufactured electric motorbike operations across Nigeria, aiming to slash running costs for riders and reduce environmental impact.
Since launching in Nigeria in 2024, Spiro (with a manufacturing base in Ogun State) has grown steadily, according to its West Africa Director, Mr Rahul Gaur. He said the e-bikes are helping riders save significantly on fuel and maintenance costs. Underlining its green credentials, Gaur noted the bikes contribute to cleaner air and offer a full mobility ecosystem from bike production to battery-swap stations and software support.
Spiro reports that riders benefit from lower downtime and reduced maintenance, while the company has invested in its infrastructure: grid-powered and backed-up battery-swap stations, and a roadmap to integrate solar energy at those stations. Gaur stated, “We are making a product which is adding to the cleaner environment for the country, which is very, very needed today.”
He said the bikes are priced to rival petrol-powered alternatives, making them accessible for individual users and commercial riders alike. Spiro’s broader footprint includes more than 45,000 bikes across eight African countries, over 1,295 battery-swap stations and 23 million battery swaps to date.
