The President of Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA) Nigeria, Mrs. Ifunanya Nwaeze, has urged members and maritime stakeholders to embrace unity, shared purpose and resilience as the sector enters a new year of opportunities and challenges.

In a Boxing Day message, Nwaeze encouraged women professionals across the maritime value chain to support one another, advance collective goals, and strengthen the association’s influence in shaping policy, workforce development and industry inclusion. The message emphasised the need for cohesive action to address common issues such as skills gaps, career progression barriers and equitable participation in decision-making.

She reminded WIMA members that, as the industry evolves with digitalisation and global competition, solidarity and strategic collaboration will be critical to harnessing Nigeria’s blue-economy potential and empowering women at all levels of the sector.

Nwaeze also highlighted the importance of mentoring, networking and leadership cultivation as tools for building a more inclusive maritime community, urging stakeholders to focus on sustainable goals and shared progress heading into 2026.

The call for unity resonates with broader efforts within the maritime sector to promote gender equity and elevate women’s roles in shipping, ports, logistics and maritime governance.
