The Federal Government will construct a ₦1.5 trillion ($1 billion) light rail network across Kano metropolis, announced by House Appropriations Chairman Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi.
This transformative project aims to resolve chronic congestion in Northern Nigeria’s commercial hub, mirroring metro systems in Europe and Asia to boost mobility for 5 million residents and stimulate economic growth.
Bichi dismissed claims of regional neglect, detailing President Tinubu’s infrastructure investments across the North including the near-complete Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway, accelerated Kaduna-Abuja Road overhaul, completed 200km Kano-Hadejia Road, and ₦250 billion Kano Northern Bypass.
“As Appropriations Chairman, I confirm this administration has initiated more critical projects here than any leader in a decade,” he stated.
Procurement begins immediately for the rail project targeting 2028 completion. All cited road projects will be fully operational by Q1 2026, advancing Northern Nigeria’s infrastructure renaissance.
