The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has granted approval for scheduled commercial flight operations at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport.

The authorization, detailed in an official letter to Governor Biodun Oyebanji, follows a successful validation inspection in June 2025. The NCAA confirmed the airport has met essential operational and safety requirements.

The interim permit, effective from October 2, 2025, is valid for six months and is limited to daylight operations. This provisional approval is designed to allow the airport to address any remaining gaps and begin the formal certification process for a full, three-year Aerodrome Operational Permit.

Governor Oyebanji hailed the development as a major catalyst for the state’s economy. He stated that commercial flights will significantly boost agribusiness, tourism, and commerce. The governor also noted that the installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) is at an advanced stage, which will eventually enable all-weather and night operations.

The Ekiti airport project was initiated in 2019 by the previous administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
