Governor of Akwa Ibom State
Governor Umo Eno has hailed the latest Airbus aircraft acquired for Ibom Air as more than a fleet expansion, calling it a clear signal of his administration’s sustained commitment to building a viable aviation sector in Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking to journalists shortly after touching down at Ibom International Airport, Eno noted that the new arrival marks the third Airbus aircraft added to the airline’s fleet since he assumed office in 2023. He also disclosed that two other aircraft have been fully paid for, bringing the total to five planes procured under his watch.
“The new aircraft speaks volumes, not just for Ibom Air, but for Akwa Ibom State as we seek to expand the airline. It shows consistency,” Eno said. “This is the third Airbus since we came into office, and we have fully paid for two more. So, five aircraft in total, that tells you we are deliberate.”
He also provided an update on the state’s Aviation Village, specifically the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, which he said is nearing completion. Once operational, the entire aviation ecosystem, he argued, would generate employment, earn foreign exchange, and meaningfully boost the state’s Gross Domestic Product.
“When all of this ecosystem begins to function the way it should, you’ll see the jobs it will create, the foreign exchange earnings it will bring, and of course, the effect on our GDP as a state,” he said.
The governor expressed confidence that the investments would ultimately translate into tangible improvements in the quality of life for Akwa Ibom residents. “That is where, by the grace of God, we will see the dividends of democracy,” he added.
The latest acquisition follows Eno’s recent trip to Montreal, Canada, where he led a delegation for the pre-delivery inspection of Ibom Air’s third Airbus A220-300. The brand-new aircraft is scheduled to arrive at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, on August 30, 2026, bringing the airline’s total fleet to ten aircraft.
The added capacity is expected to support Ibom Air’s network expansion and improve connectivity within Nigeria and across regional routes.
