The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has signed a contract for the construction of its new corporate headquarters and a centralised Air Traffic Management (ATM) facility in Abuja, marking a major step forward in the agency’s infrastructural and operational modernisation.
The agreement was sealed in the Federal Capital Territory following months of legal preparation and compliance alignment, described by NAMA’s Director of Legal Services, Mrs. Rita Egbadon, as a landmark moment in the agency’s history. She noted that the project will end an era in which NAMA operated from facilities that did not fully reflect the scope and sensitivity of its mandate.
The new facility is designed to house both the agency’s corporate headquarters and the centralised air traffic control centre, which will consolidate key operations previously spread across multiple locations. NAMA Managing Director Engr. Ahmed Umar Farouk said this consolidation is expected to improve operational efficiency and strengthen safety oversight across Nigeria’s Flight Information Region.
Officials believe the development will significantly enhance the nation’s air navigation services, support future technological advancements in air traffic management, and align Nigeria’s airspace infrastructure with global best practices.
