The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has led a high-powered Federal Government technical committee on an on-site inspection of Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State as part of efforts to upgrade the facility for full international flight operations.

The delegation, which included senior officials from the Ministry, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other aviation agencies, assessed the airport’s terminal facilities, runway and support infrastructure. The exercise is part of the Federal Government’s coordinated push to operationalise international services from Uyo by April 1, 2026, the target date set for commissioning international flights.

In attendance was Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, who commended the minister for his commitment to accelerating the upgrade process and pledged full cooperation from the state government.

Keyamo directed the technical committee to mobilise to the airport site from the first week of January 2026 to fast-track outstanding works and ensure that all requirements for international status are met promptly.

The inspection follows earlier Federal Government designation of the Uyo facility as an international airport formally recognising its readiness to handle global passenger traffic once final regulatory and operational checks are completed.
