President Bola Tinubu has commissioned four major Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure projects across Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri as part of efforts to expand clean energy transportation and reduce dependence on petrol. The projects were unveiled as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.
The projects were delivered under the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) and form part of the Federal Government’s response to the removal of fuel subsidy, with a focus on lowering transportation costs, increasing domestic gas utilisation, and promoting cleaner energy alternatives.
At Ojota in Lagos, the President commissioned the Portland Gas CNG Mother Station, a facility with a daily dispensing capacity of 96,000 standard cubic metres. The project includes skid trucks for gas distribution, a 54-metric-tonne Liquefied CNG storage facility, and a linked daughter station in Kubwa, Abuja.
Tinubu also inaugurated the IBILE Oil and Gas Corporation CNG Refuelling Station in Lagos, which serves as the flagship facility in a planned network of 15 CNG stations being developed across different parts of the state, including Agege, Ajah, Badagry, Ikota, and Abule Egba.
