Airports Authority Implements Measures to Reduce Flight Disruptions Ahead of Holiday Season

In preparation for the anticipated surge in holiday travel, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has directed airlines to review their flight schedules in coordination with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to minimize delays and cancellations during the Christmas period. FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku announced the directive on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ retreat in Abuja titled “Future proofing FAAN: Leadership, Modernisation and Strategic Renewal.

Kuku emphasized the authority’s commitment to ensuring safe, secure, and welcoming airport environments for passengers. She revealed that FAAN has initiated weekly facilitation meetings with airlines and ground handlers throughout December and January, moving from the previous quarterly schedule, to enhance operational coordination and passenger communication.

Addressing infrastructure concerns, Kuku confirmed ongoing efforts to repair faulty cooling systems, resolve power supply challenges, and improve sanitation across major airports. She specifically mentioned collaborations with electricity distribution companies and facility managers to maintain reliable power and cleanliness during the peak travel season.

Regarding financial performance, Kuku reported significant revenue growth under the current administration. FAAN has increased its non aeronautical revenue by over fifty percent, with aeronautical revenue from landing fees, parking charges, and passenger service charges also showing substantial improvement. The authority remains on track to meet its revenue targets while maintaining its goal of operational self sustainability.

These coordinated measures represent FAAN’s comprehensive strategy to manage holiday travel demand while enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency across Nigerian airports.
