The Alumni of Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron (AMANO) has announced that it will take centre stage at its 2025 convention to drive a major discourse on “Net-Zero & Greener Shipping”.

According to the announcement, AMANO has positioned the convention as a platform for maritime stakeholders to engage in strategies and technologies aimed at decarbonising shipping operations and aligning Nigeria’s maritime sector with global environmental targets.

With global shipping recently facing heightened regulation including the International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s proposed Net-Zero Framework aimed at cutting greenhouse-gas emissions from ships by 2050.

Industry observers say the convention will be critical for Nigeria’s maritime sector to adopt cleaner fuels, deploy emission-reduction technologies and participate meaningfully in the global push for sustainable shipping.

AMANO’s leadership emphasised that Nigerian shipping must not be left behind as maritime nations and companies transition toward greener operations, and vowed to use the convention to pave the way for local innovation, regulatory reforms and public-private collaboration.
