In a landmark collaboration to strengthen road safety and regulatory oversight, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) have launched a Joint Task Force for a nationwide crackdown on uninsured vehicles and the digitalization of passenger manifests.

The primary mandate of the task force is to enforce compulsory third-party motor insurance policies and digitize passenger manifests across the country. The inauguration ceremony was held in Abuja and presided over by FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and NAICOM’s Executive Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Omosehin.

Corps Marshal Mohammed described the initiative as a “new phase of inter-agency partnership” aimed at fostering transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Nigeria’s road transport and insurance sectors. He emphasized that the collaboration aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes digital transformation and inter-agency cooperation.

The key objectives of the joint initiative include ensuring compliance with compulsory third-party motor insurance, enhancing data-driven enforcement strategies, and integrating FRSC and NAICOM databases for seamless information sharing and operational efficiency.

“With the establishment of the FRSC and NAICOM Joint Task Force, we are confident that the number of uninsured vehicles on Nigerian roads will drastically reduce,” Mohammed stated. He added that the partnership would not only improve road safety but also enhance the government’s capacity to provide immediate financial and medical support to accident victims.

In his remarks, Mr. Omosehin commended the FRSC for its leadership and commitment to national safety. He affirmed that the collaboration would yield significant public benefits, including effective enforcement, prompt compensation for crash victims, and stronger consumer protection.

The initiative marks a critical step towards reducing the number of uninsured vehicles on Nigerian roads, improving welfare for road users, and strengthening the overall framework of public safety.
