The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has announced plans to deploy approximately 100 personnel along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway to enhance safety and reduce accidents during the high-traffic ’ember’ months.

The State Sector Commander, Mr. Akinwunmi Fashakin, disclosed this over the weekend, stating that the move is part of a comprehensive strategy to manage the increased vehicular movement and unique challenges posed by ongoing road construction on the critical corridor.

Fashakin cautioned motorists, especially drivers of articulated vehicles, against dangerous practices such as drunk driving, speeding, overloading, and using worn-out tyres, which he identified as primary causes of fatal crashes.

To ensure swift clearance of obstructions, the Command will collaborate with private owners of heavy-duty tow trucks for the immediate removal of broken-down or accident-involved vehicles.

“FRSC does not recognise boundaries when it comes to crashes,” Fashakin stated. “We are bracing up for the challenges likely to arise from impatience and indiscipline by some drivers.”

He explained that the personnel will be strategically positioned to manage traffic congestion, with support from corridor commanders stationed between Sagamu and Benin-Ore. FRSC units in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ogbere, and Ajebandele will adopt a coordinated approach to prevent gridlock.

“Our mission is that no one should sleep on the road during the ember months,” Fashakin affirmed, adding that the Corps would sustain public enlightenment on the dangers of reckless driving and poor vehicle maintenance.

The Commander further noted that the FRSC would strengthen synergy with other security and emergency agencies to facilitate smooth travel and ensure rapid response to incidents along the route.
