The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered domestic airlines to submit and publish detailed fare filings in response to growing passenger complaints over inconsistent and rising airfares.
The directive, issued by NCAA’s Consumer Protection Department, requires carriers to provide transparent fare breakdowns including all taxes, levies, surcharges and ancillary charges to enable passengers and regulators to clearly understand what makes up ticket prices.
According to the regulator, the move is aimed at enhancing pricing transparency, curbing unfair pricing practices, and protecting consumer rights in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving aviation market. Concern over fare hikes has intensified in recent months, particularly on key domestic routes, prompting the NCAA’s intervention.
The authority said it will monitor airline compliance and that failure to file accurate fare data or withholding pricing information could attract sanctions under the NCAA regulatory framework.
NCAA also urged passengers to share verified complaints with the agency’s consumer desk if they believe they have been unfairly charged, stressing that fare transparency is essential for restoring confidence and fairness in domestic air travel.
