Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has confirmed that plans are underway to extend the state’s Red Line rail project into neighbouring Ogun State as part of efforts to improve regional transportation.

The governor disclosed that discussions are ongoing to push the rail service beyond its current terminal, noting that the move is aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity between Lagos and Ogun communities.
He explained that the extension forms part of a broader integrated transport strategy that combines rail, road, and water systems to improve mobility across the state and adjoining areas.

Currently, the first phase of the Red Line runs from Oyingbo to Agbado, while the second phase under construction will extend the route to Marina, where it will connect with the Blue Line rail system.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the Red Line is designed as a high-capacity corridor, expected to transport up to 500,000 passengers daily when fully operational, particularly serving commuters traveling between Lagos and Ogun State.
