Global air travellers are increasingly turning to mobile devices and direct airline channels for flight bookings and trip management, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) says in its 2025 Global Passenger Survey. The shift highlights how digital technology is reshaping how people plan and experience air travel.

According to IATA’s latest findings, 54 percent of passengers now prefer to book flights directly with airlines, a trend driven largely by the convenience of airline apps and mobile platforms. Airline websites remain popular, accounting for 31 percent of bookings, though this share has declined as mobile usage rises.

The report also shows that smartphones are increasingly central to the travel journey from booking and payment to check-in, boarding, immigration and baggage management. In a key insight, 78 percent of travellers said they want an all-in-one mobile solution that integrates digital wallets, digital passports and loyalty programmes, reflecting demand for streamlined travel experiences.
