The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has obtained the backing of Agboyi-Ketu community leaders for the transformation of the Ketu Lay-by (Demurin bound) into a modern bus terminal, clearing the way for a project designed to ease chronic congestion and improve commuter experience along the corridor.
The pact was reached at a meeting where plans for the Quality Bus Corridor Package 1 were finalised. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, represented by Director of Transport Policy and Coordination Aderounmu Agbomeji, said the terminal on the Ketu–Alapere–Akanimodo corridor would address persistent traffic snarls and create a more organised and safer space for thousands of daily passengers.
Musa stressed that the success of the project would depend on sustained collaboration between the government and the community. A formal agreement will be signed to ensure adherence to operational guidelines, including the relocation of traders from road setbacks into designated market stalls to improve safety and traffic flow. He added that non-regulated transport operators would operate strictly within approved loading and off-loading zones to prevent a return of gridlock.
“The Ketu Modern Bus Terminal forms part of the state’s strategic transport master plan aimed at delivering an integrated, multimodal system that connects road, rail and water transportation,” Musa said.
Project Manager Femi Fayombo confirmed that contractors are set to mobilise to the site, noting that the terminal represents an expansion of the original project scope prioritised by the state government to boost transport efficiency and enhance residents’ quality of life.
