The Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI) has expanded its footprint with the opening of two additional training centres in Oshodi and Apapa, responding to growing demand for professional driver education and road safety training.

The new facilities are situated at the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Secretariat in Oshodi and at No. 5, Adele Road, off Warehouse Road, Apapa.

Speaking during an inspection tour, LASDRI General Manager, Afusat Tiamiyu, explained that the locations were deliberately chosen because of the heavy traffic and high vehicular density that characterise the Oshodi and Apapa corridors. She emphasised that motorists operating in these areas need specialised training to navigate congested roads safely, prevent accidents, and comply with traffic laws.

Tiamiyu noted that the institute faces growing pressure to deliver structured, comprehensive training that equips drivers with vehicle handling skills, defensive driving techniques, and a solid grasp of road regulations. Formal instruction, she said, remains critical for helping motorists understand road signs, lane discipline, and traffic rules, thereby avoiding penalties and vehicle impoundment.

She added that professional driver training enhances hazard perception and spatial awareness, competencies that are particularly vital for safe driving around articulated trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles common in the Apapa axis.

Describing Oshodi and Apapa as major commercial and transport hubs, the LASDRI chief pointed out that drivers there must contend with complex traffic patterns, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes, and the unpredictable behaviour of commercial bus operators. She said the areas require experienced instructors capable of teaching motorists to anticipate erratic driving and handle crowded roadways with confidence.

Director Munirudeen Bajulaiye disclosed that each new centre has been built to accommodate around 25 trainees per session and includes administrative offices and convenience facilities.
