An Air Peace Airbus A320 was severely damaged on the tarmac at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 on Tuesday after a baggage conveyor truck operated by Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) slammed into its engine.
The airline said the incident happened shortly after Flight P47427 arrived from Kano and passengers had disembarked. The impact tore into the engine housing, rendering the aircraft unserviceable.
Industry sources told Daily Sun that the driver of the vehicle slumped at the wheel, losing control before the collision. He is currently receiving treatment at the FAAN clinic.
Air Peace said the damaged plane was due to operate several routes in the coming days. Its loss will force delays and cancellations while the airline reshuffles its fleet to cover the gap.
The carrier apologised to passengers and said it is offering rebooking options and support to those affected. It also confirmed it is working with NAHCO and aviation regulators to investigate the cause and prevent a repeat.
The airline’s statement confirmed the incident and noted the equipment “tore into the aircraft,” leaving it out of action. It described the disruption as “unforeseen” and said customer service teams are actively assisting impacted travellers.
