LAMATA to Host International Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced plans to host the 2025 International Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility (SUMConference25) in Lagos.

The three-day event, scheduled to take place from October 8 to 10, 2025, will be held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Ikeja. Themed “Harnessing Clean Urban Transport Innovation and Investment in Africa,” the conference aims to provide a platform for stakeholders to address the challenges and opportunities in urban mobility across the continent.

According to LAMATA, the summit will focus on issues such as clean transport innovation, climate finance, smart transport systems, renewable energy integration, active mobility, freight and logistics, and public safety in transport. The discussions will bring together policymakers, transport operators, financial institutions, academics, non-governmental organizations, and infrastructure developers.

The agency disclosed that the conference would be bilingual, conducted in both English and French, to foster wider participation from across Africa.

LAMATA also announced sponsorship and partnership opportunities for corporate organizations, with categories ranging from Platinum (₦25 million / $15,000) to Bronze (₦5 million / $3,000), alongside exhibition slots.

Conference Coordinator, Obafemi Shitta-Bey, said preparations were in top gear to deliver a successful event, while procurement processes are being overseen by Mr. Babatunde Fashola.

The SUMConference25 is expected to drive conversations around sustainable transport policies and investments that can enhance mobility and reduce carbon emissions in Africa’s rapidly growing cities.
