The Minister for Transportation
Saidu Alkali has resigned as Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation to pursue the governorship of Gombe State in the 2027 elections, becoming one of the first cabinet members to step down following President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees with electoral ambitions to resign by March 31.
His resignation was confirmed on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Umar Jibril, who stated that President Tinubu had accepted the resignation and expressed gratitude for Alkali’s service.
In his resignation letter, Alkali thanked the President for the opportunity to serve and highlighted progress recorded in the transportation sector during his tenure.
Alkali was appointed Minister of Transportation on August 16, 2023, as part of a cabinet reshuffle. Prior to his ministerial role, he served three terms as Senator representing Gombe North.
